Phonics - Class 1

The word, “Phonics” is a noun and it means “a method of teaching people to read based on the sounds that letters represent.” Phonics was culled out of the Adjective “Phonics” which is the sound made in speech. On the whole, Phonics is simply how sounds are represented. In the time past, Phonics was not taught in our schools due to lack of inclusion in the Federal Scheme. Regrettably, it resulted in pupils inadequate pronunciation of words where required. Phonics was introduced into the scheme so that the child does not fall prey to accurate pronunciation of words. Sincerely speaking, there has been limited textbooks on Phonics. MACADAMS PUBLISHERS LIMITED has chosen to produce not just a book but a comprehensive textbook strictly on phonics. I consider this cogent approach extremely good as it will improve on the child’s development. Pupils are expected to constantly study the book, learn from the examples as well as practice with the likely examination questions contained in the book. On this, I am convinced that, if proper use of the book is put in place; The series has a lot to teach the child as well as assist the teacher prepare her lesson note without stress.
